Suggested Checklist for Secondary Education/Spanish
(Spanish Major- 32-33 credit hours)


o 200/201 Conversation and Composition (Fall and Spring)

o 202 Composition and Conversation (Fall and Spring)

o 310 Spanish Literature and Culture: Pre-Eighteenth Century (Fall only)

o 311 Spanish Literature and Culture: From Eighteenth Century ( Spring only)

o 312 Latin American Literature and Culture Post-18th Century ( Fall only)

o 313 Latin American Literature and Culture: From Eighteenth Century (Spring only)

o 400 Applied Linguistics (Spring Only)

o 420 Applied Grammar (Spring Only)

Tests Requirements:

There are four exams that you must take:


1. Praxis I (also called PPST) - Reading (Test Code: 0710) (Duration: 1 hour) (Cost: $40)
- Writing (Test Code: 0720) (Duration: 1 hour) (Cost: $40)
- Math (Test Code: 0730) (Duration: 1 hour) (Cost: $40)
*The Praxis I is a requirement that must be fulfilled before entering into the Feinstein School of Education and Human Development


2. Praxis II
- Spanish Content Knowledge (Test Code: 0191) (Duration: 1 hour) (Cost: $80)
- Spanish Productive Language Skills (Test Code: 0192) (Duration: 1 hour) (Cost $80)


3. Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT) (Test Code: 0524) (Cost: $90)
- Measure general pedagogical knowledge at four grade levels: Early Childhood, K-6, 5-9 and 7-12. These tests use a case study approach and feature constructed-response and multiple-choice items.


* It is highly recommended to take this test after taking CEP 315: Counseling and Educational Psychology

4. In-House Exam: Written portion of the Spanish Content Exam: Focus on the core courses in the major: Spanish 310, 311, 312, and 313.


· Save any material including notes, books, syllabi, quizzes, papers to review important historical events and cultural phenomena of Spain and Latin America.

o Foundations 346: Schooling in a Democratic Society

o SED 406: Instructional Methods, Design and Technology
o SED 407: Instructional Methods, Design and Literacy
o SED 410: Practicum in Secondary Modern Language
ü PLT and Praxis II requirements must be fulfilled before entering into this class
o SED 421: Student Teaching in Secondary Schools
